Antalya Off the Beaten Path: 5 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kaleici, past where the postcards stop
Hadrian’s Gate (130 AD) and Hidirlik Tower, a 2nd-century Roman watchtower on the harbor cliff, are free and take under an hour together. Day 3: The Duden Waterfalls, and the one everyone gets backwards
Upper Duden charges roughly 100 TRY entrance plus 100 TRY parking for a walk-behind-the-cascade cave. Lower Duden, on the Lara side, free-falls straight into the Mediterranean, free and open around the clock, and for most people it’s the more striking of the two. Day 4: Lara beach and a hammam older than most countries
Lara’s sandy strip toward Kundu is where the all-inclusive resorts live, mostly private beach frontage rather than open public sand; Konyaalti still wins for a real coastal-city feel, Lara wins if a resort stay is the point. In the evening, book a hammam reportedly running for 500 to 600 years straight; a full treatment with an oil or soap massage runs roughly €25-75 depending on add-ons, confirm the price before lying down.
Day 5: The bazaar’s backstreets and a harbor sunset cruise
Is Kaleici’s bazaar safe to haggle in? Yes, it’s the expected local custom on leather, copper, and carpets, not a scam in itself; Uzun Carsi’s main drag prices start highest, and the smaller stalls one street over do the same haggling dance with less markup. Ask for an authenticity certificate before paying for any carpet. Cap the day with a sunset boat cruise from the marina below the old walls, easily the calmest way to see Kaleici’s cliffside profile from the water.
Antalya Museum is closed until at least late 2026 for a full earthquake-risk rebuild; check antalyamuzesi.gov.tr before a future trip rather than routing this one around it.
