Cambodia Travel Itinerary: 4-Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Phnom Penh
- Morning: Arrive at Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH). If you’re flying from another country, you’ll need a visa on arrival (see below for details).
- 9:00 AM: Visit the Royal Palace and its stunning Silver Pagoda. Take a guided tour to learn about Cambodian history and culture.
- 12:00 PM: Grab lunch at one of Phnom Penh’s many street food stalls or restaurants, trying some delicious Khmer dishes like fish amok or nom banh chok.
- 2:00 PM: Visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a somber reminder of Cambodia’s turbulent past. This museum is a former prison and execution site during the Khmer Rouge regime.
- Evening: Enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant with great views of the city, like FCC Angkor.
Day 2: Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
- 8:00 AM: Depart for Siem Reap ( approx. 3-4 hours by car or bus).
- 12:00 PM: Arrive in Siem Reap and check-in at your hotel.
- 1:30 PM: Visit the Angkor National Museum to learn about the history of Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites.
- 4:00 PM: Explore the Old Market (Psar Chas) for some local shopping and souvenirs.
- Evening: Enjoy a sunset dinner cruise on Tonle Sap Lake.
Day 3: Exploring Angkor Wat
- 5:00 AM: Wake up early to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat. This is a truly unforgettable experience!
- 7:00 AM: Visit the Angkor Wat temple complex, exploring its vast grounds, intricate carvings, and imposing architecture.
- 12:00 PM: Take a break for lunch at one of the many food stalls or restaurants near the temples.
- 2:00 PM: Continue exploring Angkor Wat, visiting the Bayon Temple and the Elephant and Leper King Terraces.
Day 4: Tonle Sap Lake and Departure
- 8:00 AM: Take a day trip to Tonle Sap Lake, where you can explore floating villages and see traditional fishing communities.
- 12:00 PM: Return to Siem Reap for lunch and some last-minute shopping.
- 2:00 PM: Depart for Phnom Penh or the airport for your onward journey.
Visa Requirements:
- If flying from another country, you’ll need a visa on arrival (VOA) at Phnom Penh International Airport. The VOA costs $30 and is usually valid for 1-3 months.
- You can also apply for an e-visa online in advance, which takes around 1-2 days to process.
Transportation:
- From the airport to your hotel, you can take a taxi or tuk-tuk (around $10-15).
- For transportation between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, you can book a private car or bus service in advance (approx. $30-50).
Other Tips:
- Cambodia is generally a safe country to visit, but be aware of your surroundings and keep valuables secure.
- Be respectful of local customs and traditions, especially when visiting temples or attending cultural events.
