France Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paris
- Transportation: Arrive at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and take the RER B train to Gare du Nord station
- Accommodation: Check-in at a hotel in the heart of Paris, such as Hotel Eiffel Trocadero or similar
- Things to Know:
- France is a Schengen country, so if you’re from outside the EU, check your visa requirements (see below)
- Don’t forget to validate your train ticket before boarding
- Try some delicious French croissants and coffee at a local patisserie
- Places to Go:
- The Eiffel Tower (Tours available, but book in advance for the summit experience)
- Champs-Élysées shopping street
- Arc de Triomphe ( Monument to Napoleon)
Day 2: Parisian Landmarks
- Transportation: Take the Metro to get around Paris, or rent a bike and enjoy the scenic Seine River route
- Things to Know:
- Be prepared for large crowds at popular attractions like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum
- Don’t miss the street performers and live music in popular areas like Montmartre
- Try some authentic French cuisine, such as escargots or duck confit
- Places to Go:
- The Louvre Museum (Home to the Mona Lisa)
- Notre-Dame Cathedral (Iconic Gothic architecture)
- Sainte-Chapelle (Beautiful stained glass windows)
Day 3: Reims and Champagne Region
- Transportation: Take a train from Paris to Reims (~45 minutes) and then take a taxi or walk to your hotel
- Accommodation: Check-in at a hotel in the heart of Reims, such as Hotel Les Jardins de la Fontaine or similar
- Things to Know:
- France has strict drink-driving laws, so plan ahead for transportation
- Visit some of the local vineyards and enjoy a wine tasting experience (Champagne is famous worldwide!)
- Be respectful when visiting churches and cathedrals
- Places to Go:
- Reims Cathedral (Gothic architecture and stunning views)
- Palace of Tau (Former archbishop’s palace with beautiful gardens)
Day 4: Normandy and Omaha Beach
- Transportation: Take a train from Reims to Bayeux (~2.5 hours) and then take a taxi or bus to your hotel
- Accommodation: Check-in at a hotel in the heart of Bayeux, such as Hotel La Fontaine or similar
- Things to Know:
- Normandy is famous for its beautiful beaches and historical significance during WWII (D-Day)
- Visit some of the local war museums and cemeteries to pay respects
- Try some authentic Norman cuisine, such as crepes or seafood dishes
- Places to Go:
- Omaha Beach (Important D-Day landing site)
- American Cemetery (Tombstones for American soldiers who died in WWII)
Day 5: Mont-Saint-Michel and Bayeux
- Transportation: Take a bus from Bayeux to the Mont-Saint-Michel (~30 minutes) and then take a taxi or walk
- Accommodation: Check-in at a hotel near the Mont-Saint-Michel, such as Hotel La Mère Poulard or similar
- Things to Know:
- This famous abbey is surrounded by vast tides and requires special planning for transportation
- Visit some of the local artisan shops selling handmade crafts and souvenirs
- Enjoy a dinner at one of the local restaurants with beautiful views of the bay
- Places to Go:
- Mont-Saint-Michel (Famous abbey surrounded by tides)
- Bayeux Tapestry Museum (Historical tapestry depicting events leading up to the Norman Conquest)
Day 6: Return to Paris and Departure
- Transportation: Take a train from Bayeux back to Paris (~2.5 hours) and then take the RER B train back to Charles de Gaulle Airport
- Things to Know:
- Be sure to validate your return ticket before boarding
- Don’t forget to pack any souvenirs or gifts you’ve purchased during your trip
- Return to the airport with plenty of time for check-in and security procedures
