Iceland-3-day-itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Reykjavik
- Morning
- Arrive at Keflavík International Airport
- Pick up rental car (required for most of the trip)
- Drive to Reykjavik city center ( approx. 45 minutes)
- Afternoon
- Visit Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church and highest point in Reykjavik
- Explore the Laugavegur shopping street and its many cafes and shops
- Walk around the scenic Lake Tjörnin
- Evening
- Enjoy traditional Icelandic cuisine at Fish Company or 101 Restaurant
- Relax with a soak in one of Reykjavik’s geothermal pools (Laugarvatn Fontana or Blue Lagoon)
- Important Information
Visa Requirements: As an EU/EEA citizen, no visa is required for Iceland. For citizens from other countries, please check the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration website.
Weather: Pack layers and waterproof gear as the weather can change quickly in Iceland.
Transportation:
Rental car: A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended for exploring Iceland’s rugged terrain. Fuel: Fuel prices are higher than average. Try to fill up whenever possible.
Day 2: Golden Circle and South Coast
- Morning
- Visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site ( approx. 45 minutes from Reykjavik)
- Explore the unique geology and historic significance
- Afternoon
- Drive to Geysir area (approx. 1 hour)
- Witness Strokkur geyser erupting every few minutes
- Visit Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most iconic attractions
- Evening
Drive to Vik village ( approx. 2 hours) and enjoy the stunning coastal views
Day 3: Glacier Hike and Return to Reykjavik
- Morning
- Drive to Skaftafell National Park (approx. 1 hour from Vik)
- Take a guided glacier hike on Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier
- Afternoon
- Visit black sand beach Reynisfjara and its unique rock formations
- Return the rental car to Keflavík airport ( approx. 2 hours) for your departure
