Korea (South)-6-day-itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Seoul
- Arrive at Incheon International Airport
- Take the express train (AREX) to Gimpo Airport or Seoul Station ( approx. 45-60 minutes)
- Transfer to a subway line (Line 2 or Line 5) and head to your accommodation in Hongdae, Myeong-dong, or other popular areas
Things to Know:
- Visa requirements for tourists:
- Citizens of most countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and more, can enter Korea without a visa for tourism purposes.
- Check with the Korean Embassy or Consulate in your home country for specific requirements
- Currency: Korean Won (KRW) - although credit cards are widely accepted
Day 2: Seoul Exploration
- Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest and most iconic palace in Korea
- Explore the nearby Bukchon Hanok Village, a traditional Korean village with many hanok (traditional houses)
- Head to Myeong-dong, one of Seoul’s busiest shopping districts
Activities:
- Try some delicious street food, such as hotteok or kimbap
- Visit the Namsan Tower for panoramic views of the city
- Take a stroll through the beautiful Lotte World Mall and its surrounding gardens
Things to Know:
- Tipping culture in Korea is not common, but it’s appreciated for good service (around 5-10%)
- Be mindful of dress code when visiting temples or palaces
- Don’t miss trying some traditional Korean snacks, such as tteokbokki or hotteok!
Day 3: Seoul - Busan
- Take the KTX bullet train from Seoul Station to Busan Station ( approx. 2 hours)
- Visit Busan Tower, offering stunning views of the city
- Explore the bustling streets of Seomyeon, a major shopping and entertainment district
Things to Know:
- Busan is famous for its seafood markets, so be sure to try some fresh fish or other delicacies!
- Don’t miss visiting the Busan Museum of Art, which features modern Korean art
- Try to visit during peak season (June-August) for the best weather and festival atmosphere
Day 4: Busan - Gyeongju
- Visit the historic city of Gyeongju, a UNESCO World Heritage Site ( approx. 1 hour by car or bus)
- Explore the many ancient ruins, including Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto
- Try some traditional Korean desserts, such as makgeolli or omija tea
Things to Know:
- Be respectful of any historical sites you visit, especially during peak season
- Don’t miss trying some local specialties, such as gyerang chicken or dongmyeongjeon (traditional Korean bread)
- Try to explore the city on foot to experience its charming streets and alleys
Day 5: Gyeongju - Jeju Island
- Fly from Gimhae Airport (near Busan) to Jeju International Airport ( approx. 1 hour)
- Visit Seongsan Ilchulbong, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring stunning sunrises
- Explore the beautiful beaches and waterfalls of Jeju Island
Things to Know:
- Jeju Island is famous for its scenic landscapes, so don’t miss taking a scenic drive or hike around the island!
- Try some local specialties, such as fresh seafood or black pork ( Jeju-style BBQ)
- Don’t forget to visit during peak season (June-August) for the best weather and festival atmosphere
Day 6: Departure from Seoul
- Return to Seoul by flight from Jeju Island
- Spend your last day exploring any last-minute sights, such as Hongdae Free Market or Myeong-dong
- Head back to Incheon International Airport for departure
Things to Know:
- Don’t forget to exchange any leftover KRW currency before departing the country!
- Try to squeeze in one last visit to a traditional Korean cafe or bakery for some sweet treats
