Moldova 2-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Discovering Chisinau and its surroundings

Morning

  • 9:00 AM: Start the day with a visit to the National Museum of Ethnography and Nature, located in the heart of Chisinau. The museum showcases Moldova’s rich cultural heritage, history, and natural environment.
  • 11:30 AM: Head to the nearby Orheiul Vechi National Historical and Archaeological Reserve ( approx. 30 minutes away). Explore the medieval monastery complex and learn about its significance in Moldovan history.

Afternoon

  • 1:00 PM: Enjoy traditional Moldavian cuisine at a local restaurant, such as mamaliga (polenta), sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), or plăcintă (meat pie).
  • 3:00 PM: Visit the Central Market in Chisinau to experience the vibrant atmosphere and purchase local goods.

Evening

  • 6:00 PM: Take a leisurely stroll along the Dniester River promenade, where you can enjoy the sunset and take photos.
  • 8:00 PM: Dine at one of Chisinau’s restaurants, offering international cuisine with a Moldovan twist.

Transportation

Moldova has an extensive public transportation system. You can use:

  • Buses (marshrutkas) - frequent departures to most destinations
  • Taxis - affordable and readily available

Important:

  • If you plan to visit the Orheiul Vechi National Historical and Archaeological Reserve, consider renting a car or hiring a private transfer. Public transportation is limited in this area.

  • 2:00 PM: Visit the charming town of Bălți (approx. 1 hour from Cricova). Explore its historic center and visit the local market to purchase traditional handicrafts.
  • 4:30 PM: Head back to Chisinau for a relaxing evening.

Visa Requirements

Citizens of most European countries, as well as some other nationalities, can enter Moldova without a visa. Check with your government’s travel advisory website for specific requirements.
