Senegal-3-day-itinerary
Day 1: Dakar
- Morning: Arrive at Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (DSS)
- 9:00 AM: Visit the Marché de Kermesse, a bustling marketplace where you can buy local handicrafts, souvenirs, and try traditional Senegalese snacks like fried plantains and grilled meats.
- 12:00 PM: Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant. Try some thieboudienne, a popular dish made with rice, fish, and vegetables.
- 2:00 PM: Visit the Musée Théodore Monod, which showcases Senegalese art, culture, and history.
- 5:00 PM: Relax on the beach at Yoff Beach, one of Dakar’s most popular beaches.
Things to know:
- The official language is French, but many people also speak Wolof and other local languages.
- The local currency is the West African CFA franc (XOF).

Day 2: Saint-Louis and the Pink Lake
- 8:00 AM: Take a bus or taxi from Dakar to Saint-Louis (approx. 4 hours)
- 12:00 PM: Visit the Pink Lake, also known as Lac Rose, which is a popular spot for birdwatching and taking in the stunning views.
- 2:00 PM: Explore the historic town of Saint-Louis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with beautiful colonial architecture.
- 5:00 PM: Watch the sunset over the lake.
Things to know:
- The bus ride from Dakar to Saint-Louis can be rough, so be prepared for bumpy roads and crowded buses.
- Don’t miss the opportunity to try some local street food in Saint-Louis!
Day 3: Goree Island
- 8:00 AM: Take a ferry from the port of Dakar to Goree Island (approx. 30 minutes)
- 9:00 AM: Visit the House of Slaves, a former slave-trading post that now serves as a museum and memorial.
- 11:00 AM: Explore the island’s historic architecture, including the colonial-era buildings and churches.
- 1:00 PM: Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant.
Things to know:
- The ferry ride to Goree Island can be rough, so hold on tight!
- Be respectful of the island’s history and culture. The House of Slaves is a poignant reminder of Senegal’s complex past.
