2-Day Itinerary for Travelling in Sri Lanka
Day 1: Explore the Cultural Triangle
Morning: Sigiriya Rock Fortress (8am-10am)
- Location: Sigiriya, North Central Province
- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus from Dambulla ( approx. 15km away)
- Activities: Hike to the top of Sigiriya Rock for breathtaking views, explore the ancient city and its famous Lion’s Mouth entrance.

Afternoon: Anuradhapura Ancient City (11am-2pm)
- Location: Anuradhapura, North Central Province
- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus from Dambulla ( approx. 30km away)
- Activities: Explore the ancient city’s ruins, including the Sacred Quadrangle and the Dagabas.
- Things to Know: Be respectful of the site’s history and dress modestly.
Evening: Dambulla Cave Temple (4pm-7pm)
- Location: Dambulla, North Central Province
- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus from Anuradhapura ( approx. 30km away)
- Activities: Visit the famous cave temple and see its intricate paintings and Buddha statues.
- Things to Know: Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection.
Visa Requirements
- Citizens of most countries require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival in Sri Lanka. Apply online through etain.cdn.sriwik.gov.lk.
- The ETA is usually valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
Transportation
- Tuk-tuks and taxis are widely available, but be prepared to negotiate prices.
- Renting a car or taking public transportation (buses) can also be options.
Accommodation
- Dambulla has various accommodations ranging from budget-friendly guesthouses to luxury resorts. Book in advance to ensure availability.
Food
- Try local cuisine like hoppers, string hoppers and pittu at street food stalls or restaurants.
- Don’t forget to try some fresh coconut water!
Safety
- Be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded areas.

- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus from Kandy ( approx. 70km away)
- Activities: Visit the Victoria Park, explore the town’s colonial architecture and take in the cool mountain air.
- Things to Know: Wear layers for cooler temperatures.
Afternoon: Gregory Lake (1pm-4pm)
- Location: Nuwara Eliya, Central Province
- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus from the city center
- Activities: Relax by the lake and enjoy the scenic views.
- Things to Know: Be mindful of your belongings.
Evening: Return to Kandy (5pm-7pm)
- Transportation: Take a taxi or bus back to Kandy
- Accommodation: Spend the night in Kandy at one of its many accommodations
