Uruguay Travel Itinerary (6 days)
Day 1: Arrival in Montevideo
- Morning: Arrive at Carrasco International Airport. There’s no requirement for a visa for tourism, but it’s recommended to check the current status before travel.
- Afternoon: Check-in at your hotel and spend some time exploring Old City (Ciudad Vieja), starting from Plaza Zabala.
- Evening: Enjoy traditional Uruguayan cuisine in the evening at one of the many restaurants available. Be sure to try a plate of Chivito, Uruguay’s national sandwich.
Day 2: Montevideo
- Morning: Visit the Palacio Legislativo (Legislative Palace), an iconic building that houses the National Congress.
- Afternoon: Continue with a visit to Teatro Solís, an opera house that hosts various cultural events and concerts. It’s a good place to check for performances during your stay.
- Evening: Wander through the Port Market (Mercado del Puerto) in the evening when it transforms into a lively space filled with restaurants, bars, and street performers.
Day 3: Montevideo to Colonia del Sacramento
- Morning: Drive or take a bus from Montevideo to Colonia del Sacramento, which takes about 2 hours.
- Afternoon: Explore the historic part of Colonia, including its cobblestone streets, old churches, and colonial architecture. Don’t miss the opportunity to walk across the famous Puente de la Ciudadela (City Gate Bridge) for a panoramic view of the Rio de la Plata.
- Evening: Enjoy dinner at one of the many local restaurants in Colonia.
Day 4: Colonia del Sacramento
- Morning: Visit the Lighthouse Hill, offering breathtaking views of the town and the river. The hill also houses a beautiful church.
- Afternoon: Continue exploring the historic district on foot or by bike if available. You might want to stop at some of the local shops selling handcrafted goods.
- Evening: Return to Montevideo for your stay.
Day 5: Punta del Este
- Morning: Take a bus or drive (about an hour and a half) to Punta del Este, a luxurious coastal resort town known for its beaches and mansions.
- Afternoon: Relax at Playa Brava or Mansa beaches, enjoy water sports, or visit the famous Leblanc Art Gallery.
- Evening: Return back to your accommodation.
Day 6: Departure from Montevideo
- Morning: Spend some time shopping for souvenirs or revisiting any places you enjoyed during your trip.
- Afternoon/Early Evening: Head back to the airport for your return flight.
