Animal Encounters in the Big Easy
New Orleans is a city like no other, and its love for animals is just one of the many things that makes it so unique. From zoos to pet-friendly parks, and from aquariums to wildlife sanctuaries, NOLA has plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with our furry and finned friends.
Zoo
- Audubon Zoo: Home to over 2,000 animals, including giraffes, monkeys, and sea lions. Take a ride on the train or rent a stroller for kids (and adults!) who want to take in the sights without exerting themselves.
- Hours: 10am-5pm daily
- Admission: $30/adult, $20/child
Pet-Friendly Parks
- City Park: This sprawling green space has plenty of walking trails, a dog park, and even a horse track. Bring your furry friend or rent one to explore the park.
- Louisiana Nature Center: Get up close with native wildlife, including birds, turtles, and fish.
Aquariums
- Audubon Aquarium of the Americas: Located on the Mississippi River, this aquarium features sharks, stingrays, and even a 13-story shark tank. Don’t miss the penguin exhibit!
- Hours: 10am-5pm daily
- Admission: $25/adult, $15/child
Wildlife Sanctuaries
- Lion Habitat Ranch: Visit the African lions of New Orleans at this unique sanctuary.
- Louisiana Wildlife Rescue Center: Get a glimpse into the world of wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.
