Water Activities in Harare
Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about water activities. But, there are a few spots where you can enjoy some aquatic fun.
Cave Lake
Located just 20 kilometers south of Harare, Cave Lake is a small reservoir surrounded by hills and forests. It’s a great spot for swimming, fishing, and picnicking. The lake is relatively calm, making it suitable for families with children.
- Tips: Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic views around the lake.
- Getting there: Hire a taxi or drive yourself from Harare city center ( approx. 30 minutes)
Lake Chivero
Another reservoir located about 40 kilometers south of Harare, Lake Chivero is a bit larger than Cave Lake. It’s popular for boating, fishing, and swimming.
- Tips: Be careful with the strong currents in some areas.
- Getting there: Hire a taxi or drive yourself from Harare city center ( approx. 1 hour)
No water
Unfortunately, it seems there are no notable water activities available in Harare itself. The city is landlocked and not near any major lakes or rivers.
If you’re looking for more extensive water-based experiences, consider visiting other parts of Zimbabwe like Victoria Falls or Lake Kariba.
