Walking Tour Tips:
Best Time to Visit
The best time for walking tours is from April to October, when the weather is pleasant and comfortable. Keep an eye on the sun’s strong rays during the summer months, however.
Getting Around
You can start your journey in the city center where all major attractions are within a reasonable walking distance of each other. Public transportation options include buses and marshutkas (shared taxis), but be aware that they might not speak English.
Food and Water
Georgia is famous for its local cuisine, which combines elements of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern gastronomy with own unique characteristics. Be sure to try Khinkali (dumplings), Khachapuri (cheese bread) or Qvevri-roasted meat. You can also buy traditional candies, known as “pervans”, in markets.
Safety
Be cautious on the streets as there might be uneven pavement and uneven surfaces on some paths. Avoid displaying valuable items like cameras or phones openly.
Guided Tours
While walking around the city is perfectly fine without a guide, consider engaging with local tour guides if you’d like to gain more knowledge about history, architecture, and the current situation in the country.
Insider Tip Kutaisi has plenty of green spaces where locals enjoy strolling, particularly on the hills that offer stunning views.
