A 3 Day Umrah in Mecca

Mecca is closed to non-Muslims, so this is a pilgrim’s plan, not a tourist itinerary. Three days gives Umrah’s short rites room to breathe: a full rest day on arrival, the rites themselves, and a quieter final day for prayer and ziyarah before flying home.
Before you travel
- Nusuk Umrah permit confirmed and printed
- MenACWY meningitis certificate in hand
- Ihram garments packed (men); modest clothing (women)
- Hotel booked within walking distance of the Haram
- Haramain train or transfer booked from Jeddah
Day 1
Fly into Jeddah, then transfer to Mecca by road (roughly 1-1.5 hours) or the Haramain High-Speed Railway (roughly 30-45 minutes). Check in near the Haram and use the rest of the day to recover from travel: rehydrate, eat lightly, and sleep. Entering ihram tired and dehydrated makes the rites themselves harder than they need to be.
Day 2
Enter ihram at or before the miqat boundary, then perform Umrah in full: tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and halq or taqsir to close the state of ihram. This is the core of the trip and can take anywhere from a couple of hours to most of a day depending on crowds. Rest that evening; there’s no obligation to do anything further once the rites are complete.
Day 3
Spend the morning at the Haram in prayer, then decide on ziyarah: a visit to Jannat al-Mu’alla cemetery is a short, quiet option, while the climb to Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira takes 1-2 hours each way and needs real daylight to attempt safely. Transfer back to Jeddah for your departure flight, building in extra time for the journey and airport procedures.
Quick Reference
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Arrival, rest |
| 2 | Umrah |
| 3 | Ziyarah, departure |
For a longer window that adds a repeat Umrah or a Medina pairing, see the 4 day or 6 day plans.
Whichever ziyarah you choose on Day 3, start early: both the cemetery and the Jabal al-Nour route are more manageable before the day’s heat builds.
