A 4 Day Umrah in Mecca

Mecca is closed to non-Muslims, so this is a pilgrim’s plan, not a tourist itinerary. Four days gives room for the Umrah rites, a full ziyarah day, and a second visit to the Haram, a pattern many pilgrims use rather than rushing home right after the first Umrah.
Before you travel
- Nusuk Umrah permit confirmed and printed
- MenACWY meningitis certificate in hand
- Ihram garments packed (men); modest clothing (women)
- Hotel booked within walking distance of the Haram
- Haramain train or transfer booked from Jeddah
Day 1
Fly into Jeddah, then transfer to Mecca by road (roughly 1-1.5 hours) or the Haramain High-Speed Railway (roughly 30-45 minutes). Check in near the Haram and spend the day resting and rehydrating rather than pushing straight into the rites.
Day 2
Enter ihram at or before the miqat, then perform Umrah: tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and halq or taqsir to close the rites. Rest that evening.
Day 3
Spend the morning at the Haram in prayer, then take on ziyarah: the climb to Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira runs about 1,750 steps and 1-2 hours each way, so start early and carry more water than seems necessary. A visit to Jannat al-Mu’alla cemetery is a shorter, quieter alternative if the climb isn’t for you.
Day 4
Many pilgrims use a fourth day for a second Umrah, re-entering ihram and repeating the full rite sequence; others simply spend the day in prayer at the Haram without re-entering ihram. Either way, transfer back to Jeddah for your departure flight, allowing extra time for the journey and airport procedures.

For a plan that adds Jabal Thawr or a Medina pairing, see the 5 day or 7 day itineraries.
If you do a second Umrah on Day 4, confirm with your group leader or hotel where the nearest point to re-enter ihram is; it does not have to be the same miqat you crossed on arrival.
