A 5 Day Umrah in Mecca

Mecca is closed to non-Muslims, so this is a pilgrim’s plan, not a tourist itinerary. Five days without a Medina add-on gives unhurried time for Umrah, ziyarah, a repeat Umrah, and a genuinely free day of prayer near the Haram rather than a packed schedule.
Before you travel
- Nusuk Umrah permit confirmed and printed
- MenACWY meningitis certificate in hand
- Ihram garments packed (men); modest clothing (women)
- Hotel booked within walking distance of the Haram
- Haramain train or transfer booked from Jeddah
Day 1
Fly into Jeddah, then transfer to Mecca by road (roughly 1-1.5 hours) or the Haramain High-Speed Railway (roughly 30-45 minutes). Check in near the Haram and rest fully before doing anything else.
Day 2
Enter ihram at or before the miqat, then perform Umrah: tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and halq or taqsir to close the rites.
Day 3
Spend the morning in prayer at the Haram, then take on ziyarah: the climb to Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira runs about 1,750 steps and 1-2 hours each way, so go early. Jannat al-Mu’alla cemetery is a shorter, quieter alternative.
Day 4
Many pilgrims use a spare day for a second Umrah, re-entering ihram and repeating the full sequence; others spend the day in prayer without re-entering ihram. Either is normal on a longer trip.
Day 5
Use a genuinely free day for a final round of prayer at the Haram, picking up dates and Zamzam water to carry home, and confirming your departure transfer. Transfer back to Jeddah for your flight, building in extra time for the journey and airport procedures.

For a plan that adds a Medina pairing, see the 6 day or 7 day itineraries; for a tighter single-Umrah trip, see the 3 day plan.
Confirm your outbound flight’s check-in cutoff before finalizing Day 5’s schedule; Jeddah’s Hajj-season crowds can extend airport transit times well beyond normal.
