A 7 Day Umrah in Mecca

Mecca is closed to non-Muslims, so this is a pilgrim’s plan, not a tourist itinerary. Seven days is the fullest window in this series: Umrah, both sacred hills, a repeat Umrah, and a proper Medina pairing, without rushing any of it.
Before you travel
- Nusuk Umrah permit confirmed and printed
- MenACWY meningitis certificate in hand
- Ihram garments packed (men); modest clothing (women)
- Hotel booked within walking distance of the Haram
- Haramain train tickets booked for the Medina leg
Day 1
Fly into Jeddah, then transfer to Mecca by road (roughly 1-1.5 hours) or the Haramain High-Speed Railway (roughly 30-45 minutes). Check in near the Haram and rest fully.
Day 2
Enter ihram at or before the miqat, then perform Umrah: tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and halq or taqsir to close the rites.
Day 3
Spend the morning in prayer, then climb Jabal al-Nour to the Cave of Hira, about 1,750 steps and 1-2 hours each way. Start early to beat the heat.
Day 4
Use this day for a second Umrah, re-entering ihram and repeating the full sequence, or spend it in prayer. If you have energy left, the quieter climb to Jabal Thawr, with its cave from the Hijra, is an option here rather than on Day 3.
Day 5
A lighter day: further prayer at the Haram, picking up dates and Zamzam water, and resting ahead of the Medina leg. This is also a reasonable day to fit in Jabal Thawr if you skipped it on Day 4.
Day 6
Take the Haramain High-Speed Railway from Mecca to Medina, roughly 2-2.5 hours. Check in and spend the rest of the day visiting the Prophet’s Mosque.
Day 7
Use the morning for further prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque, then transfer to Medina’s airport (MED) for your departure flight, or back to Jeddah if your return routes through there. Build in extra time for the journey and airport procedures.
Quick Reference
| Day | Focus |

For a Mecca-only trip without Medina, see the 5 day plan; for a shorter Medina pairing, see the 6 day itinerary.
Spread the two sacred-hill climbs across separate days rather than doing both back to back; the heat and step count take a real toll even on younger, fit pilgrims.
